HELP

How do I find out my:

Operating System
Processor type
Processor Speed
Amount of RAM

To find out these things, do the following:

In Windows:

Open MY COMPUTER.
(In Windows XP, you can open it from your START Menu; in other Windows versions, double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop.)

After you open the window, look in the title bar, at the top left. You should see a small picture of a computer:

RIGHT-CLICK (click the right-side button on your mouse) on the little picture. This menu should appear:

Choose "Properties" from the bottom. You should then see this window:

I have circled the places where you can see the information in red. The Operating System is at the top, and the CPU (Processor) and CPU Speed, as well as RAM amount, are written near the bottom.

NOTE: On some computers, some information may not appear. If that happens, try to find out the information by looking in the computer's manual, or by asking someone who might know.

For Macintosh:

For OS X:

Go to the Apple Menu at top left, and choose "About This Mac." You should see this window:

I have outlined the information you will need in red: from top, going left to right: OS Version, Processor (CPU) Speed, Processor Type, and Amount of RAM.

If you click on the "More Info..." button, the System Profiler application will open, giving you much more detailed information.

For OS 8 or 9:

Go to the Apple Menu at top left, and choose "About This Computer." A window will open and show you the OS Version and the Amount of RAM.

For the Processor Speed and Type, you must open the Apple System Profiler, which is also probably in the Apple Menu (or it can be found in your Utilities folder).
